The History of LYTEhouse Young Adult Ministry
|
|
What up! My name is Julius Bercasio and I’ll be telling you how LYTEhouse got started. LYTEhouse is a ministry that comes together to praise and worship the Lord God Almighty and has a pretty darn good time doing so. The group started out about three years ago as a couple of young adults who got together once a week to learn some new contemporary Christian music. At first, that’s all we did. We would learn the songs, play them, and then talk about what the songs meant to each one of us. We developed an understanding that the lyrics of these songs spoke to our hearts, increased our spirituality and most importantly, glorified God. A couple of months down the line Alexandra Nuno, Brendan Randazzo, Danny Le, Justin Vonderach, Elisabeth Herrera, Fernando Motas, Doug Baker and myself formed a group that would be called Unplugged. This group would be the main group leading everyone else in praises to the Lord. The reason we chose the name Unplugged was because we were doing just what scripture told us to do in Romans 12:2. “Don’t let yourselves be shaped by the world where you live, but rather by the will of God: what is good, what pleases, what is perfect.” We were unplugging ourselves from worldly things and focusing on what God wanted us to do. After a while our group began to grow. With this growth came questions about what else this praise and worship ministry had to offer. That’s when we started to delve into the Bible and explore together what God’s plans were for us as a small faith community and as individuals. When we began doing this the ministry sky-rocketed. People from all over the bay area came to see what all the buzz was about. I guess the “regulars” were being touched and transformed by the Holy Spirit and started to spread the word. We had people coming weekly that lived in places like San Francisco, Union City, San Ramon, Pleasanton, and of course good ol’ San Jose. Our Protestant brothers and sisters began to join us as well as people from non-Christian faiths experiencing what it was like to be moved by the Holy Spirit. People that have strayed away from God were reunited with Him and rededicated their lives to Him through this ministry. It has been a blessing and honor to witness this and also be a part of it. A year later we changed the name of the band to LYTEhouse and also officially named the ministry with that same name. LYTEhouse is an acronym that stands for Leading You To Eternity, because we believe that we’re doing just that. We are leading people to Jesus, which is the way to eternity in heaven. “There is no salvation in anyone else, for there is no other Name given to humankind all over the world by which we may be saved.” – Acts 4:12. Over the years we have seen non-believers transform into believers and the maturing of people’s faith from a mustard seed into a huge tree where the birds come to rest. Even for myself, I have grown so much by serving in this community. I believe the Holy Spirit is at work in each of us and is putting a burning desire in our hearts to seek God’s face. And maaaannn it is fun! I have to admit that it has been an adventure taking me to places I’ve never been before in my spiritual walk with Christ. I strongly encourage that you come check us out, fellowship with us, and have an awesome time connecting with God. God Bless and I’ll keep you posted on what else we’ve been up to. Peace!
