Volunteers Needed for Teen Tutoring Program—The Muriel Wright Center, a youth residential facility of the probation department, is seeking volunteer adult tutors (21 years or older) for reading, writing or math. Volunteer tutors help for one hour a week, normally from 6:00-7:00 PM, for six months or more. If interested, please contact Laura Wegl at 227-8022 or laura.wegl@pro.sccgov.org.
Lay Volunteers Wanted—Interested in giving a year of service to the Church in the United States as a lay volunteer? Mercy Volunteer Corps, a lay volunteer program for women and men sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, provides opportunities for people over A small stipend is provided. Recycle Your Electronics—HOPE Services will take your old monitors and TV’s at no charge. HOPE has been approved by the State of California to become a “collector” of electronic waste, and can collect items to include computer monitors, TV’s and laptops. Please call HOPE at 748-2861 or drop them off Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 am-6:00 pm or Friday, from 9:00 am-2:00 pm at 1777 Agnew Road, Santa Clara, at the Salvage door in front of the building.

You are not alone—we care. The Juan Diego Pregnancy Center provides free confidential counseling, referrals, emotional support, baby items and other services. The center is located at 12 N. White Rd. Suite 5, San Jose, telephone 258-2008
Turning Point—Turning Point is a mentoring program pairing one committed adult with one at-risk youth. The program empowers youths to improve their future by providing trained mentors to guide them through a rigorous self-discovery and leadership development process. Mentors meet with their matched youth and conduct a phone contact at a minimum of once a week. Youth also attend weekly classes to reinforce the concepts of the program.

Docent Program at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph—The Cathedral’s newly-developed docent program tells the story of California’s oldest parish. Volunteers lead visitors through an interwoven history of the church and the Santa Clara Valley. Visitors may drop-in Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 to 3:00 PM to take part in a guided tour. Adoption Network of Catholic Charities
The Adoption Network of Catholic Charities of San Francisco Archdiocese is urgently seeking families who are willing to adopt children, especially from foster care. Volunteer for the Catholic Deaf Community in our Diocese
We are looking for volunteers to work with the Catholic Deaf Community in our Diocese. If you already know the American Sign Language or are willing to learn, the Diocese will support your training. Share in the Care—Retirement Fund for Religious
Bishop Patrick McGrath encourages each parish of the Diocese of San Jose to continue the wonderful and generous support offered during the past years for this appeal. This year, the annual collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious is scheduled for this weekend. This Jubilee Year—a Year of the Lord’s Favor—the appeal for retired and infirm religious has adopted the theme: Share in the Care. Many religious institutes have greatly profited from the extraordinary generosity of the Catholic population.

Food Bank Crew Volunteers Needed
Sacred Heart Community Service near downtown San Jose is in desperate need of volunteers, especially with trucks, on Mondays from 12:00 PM-3:00 PM to help pick up food from the Food Bank and to unload the food at our Pantry. Signed & Interpreted Masses
The 9:45am mass at Transfiguration Catholic Community, 4325 Jarvis Ave., San Jose, is interpreted every Sunday in American Sign Language for persons who are deaf. Additionally, a 3:30pm signed mass is celebrated the second Sunday of each month at Transfiguration. Signed religion classes for deaf children and adolescents, and marriage and baptismal preparation classes for deaf adults are also available. Sign Language Interpreters
Our Catholic Deaf Community has an ongoing need for ASL interpreters for our deaf parishioners. Interpreters provide deaf children and adults the opportunity to participate fully in masses, funeral, weddings, baptisms, and catechetical programs. If you know of someone, or if you would like to share your talent and skills in sign language—occasionally or regularly—with our Deaf Community, please contact the Diocesan Catholic Deaf Office at (408) 983-0141, or (408) 983-0292 tty. Adopt A Priest With Prayer
A ministry of praying for priests in our Diocese on a daily basis, for one year, is being initiated. Priests have a divine mission but they are also very human and daily face the problems and struggles common to all of us. They have a great need for our support in prayer, love and concern.
