In May, 2009, we had our first successful job placement.  At the very first meeting of the St. Francis of Assistance Network on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, one of the participants, Nancy, told her story of a long job search for a position as medical secretary/assistant. She had completed her training, exhausted the usual channels like “Craigslist” for local jobs and did not seem to get any traction.

After the meeting, one of our employed volunteers, Yolanda Vinciguerra, met with Nancy for lunch. Yolanda reviewed her resume and coached her on interviewing techniques. About two weeks later, Nancy had a good position.

While we recognize that Nancy had done most of the hard work, she still expressed her thanks that she somehow got a little extra push which helped her close the interview and get the job.
